Playthrough

Play, Pie and Pint, Glasgow, Ayr Gaiety Theatre and Aberdeen Lemon Tree Theatre

October 2023 and February 2024

Kenny Boyle’s Playthrough investigates the history of haunted video games, and how gaming can affect human relationships, for good and ill. Staged in Halloween week at the famous Play, Pie and A Pint at Oran Mor, Glasgow, the piece mirrors game choices with the possible variations of the show (as selected by the audience) being over 2,000. The piece was first developed by Ben with Borderline at summerhall in the autumn of 2017, some six years before its eventual premiere.

Playing to a mixed audience of PPP regulars and gamers, the production is transferring to Ayr Gaiety Theatre and Lemon Tree Aberdeen in February 2024.

Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman

a spooky deep-dive into the world of online gaming...the show is fascinating both for the gaming world it explores, and for its rich relationship with the weird language and vocabulary that world has spawned; as well as for its haunting sense of human beings caught up in a new reality which they cannot control, and which sometimes threatens – almost literally – to frighten them to death.
